2016 Steamboat Springs Sailors - Western Slope League Champs!

After a stellar regular season that saw the Steamboat Women’s Soccer team go undefeated in the Western Slope League (12-0) and 14-1 on the season, the Sailors are headed to the Colorado 4a playoffs. The Sailors have drawn the 8th seed in the playoffs and will face off at home against the 25th seeded Longmont (6-9) in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday night at 5:30pm at Gardner Field.

Other notable Western Slope League teams will see the 11th seeded Palisade High School take on 22nd seed Holy Family at home and #14 seeded Battle Mountain take on #19 seed Denver South at home.

The Sailors will have a tough road through the playoffs with possible matchups with #9 Silver Creek in round 2 and #1 seeded Lewis-Palmer if they make it to the quarterfinals. But first, the Sailors will take on Longmont High School on Wednesday night.

Longmont and Steamboat had 1 similar opponent on the season, #26 Centaraus, who the Longmont beat 3-2 and the Sailors lost 2-1 in double overtime. The Longmont team has some standout young players to go along with their five seniors. The Sailor’s defence will need to rein in the Trojans leading scorer(11), sophomore Kennedi Ghesquiere and unleash their torrent of scorers to capitalise on the Trojans youth. The Sailors have 5 players with 9 or more goals on the season for Longmont’s defence to try to corral. The matchup will be a good one with the Sailors looking to prove that their 14-1 record is no fluke.
